Chains (Ch.2)

As my supposed neighbor, Adria DuBois, stated her side of the case, all I could do is quietly seethe in my chair. How could she say that we were close all our lives if I had never seen her before? How could she say I said all that if I never saw her? I never even knew that a girl lived next door. But all I could do was seethe.

Then she said she was chained up in my basement.

"OBJECTION!" I cried out, in my haze of anger.

Sit down Mr. Greene," said the judge in her strict and menacing voice."Continue."

"Well, there isn't much more to say. The reports and the police interview say the rest." stated Adria in a decidedly false somber tone.

"Very well, Ms. DuBois. Court adjourned 'till tomorrow.
"

I was so lost in this case. What was I charged with again? Who did I hurt? What would have been my motivation for it? They say I voluntarily forgot what I did to her. I say I never did anything.

I look up to my lawyers car, and a man was leaning on the hood. Sharp-looking, black suit in place, blue tie straight and unwrinkled. He looks up with a smirk, and his face was from then on etched in my head. His face? Why?

Because, his face is MY face. And that smirk was the one I put behind bars 5 years ago.
